Safety Leadership Series – The Owner’s Role in Contractor Safety Management

Two speakers and a round table discussion for business owners, contractors, attorneys, and safety professionals interested in creating safe and productive workplaces.

Presentation 1 – This presentation will highlight the problems owners may face by being too involved and also by being too disengaged in the safety practices of their contractors, and will lay out a path forward that accommodates the different concerns and perspectives of the safety professional, the attorney, and the rest of the decision makers a typical owner must consider.

Speaker – Zach Hansmann CSP, CHMM is the Construction Safety Manager at Michigan State University, and is currently managing the construction safety aspects of the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) Project at Michigan State University.

Presentation 2 – This presentation will focus on the training, security and background screening, safety plan audits, consultation services, and hands-on training lab available through the Great Lakes Safety Training Center. This will include a discussion regarding the Contractor Owner Safety Team (COST) relationship between Dow Chemical and the Great Lakes Safety Training Center.

Speaker – Kelly Juday, COSS is the Executive Director at the Great Lakes Safety Training Center. She is the Vice President on the Board of Directors for the American Association of Safety Councils (AASC) and is a cheerleader for safety throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region.
